76ers HC Nick Nurse gets real on finally having Jaylen Brown stripped from Celtics

The rivalry between the Boston Celtics and the Philadelphia 76ers tends to be bigger than the NBA. Historically, these two franchises and their fans have never liked each other at all. This is why transactions rarely happen among them. When they do, a lot of  lines tend to get crossed and one of them is border of good taste. Jaylen Brown joining Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey has to be one of the greatest examples of this. Coach Nick Nurse is elated by the outcome of this trade but knows how much weight it carries.

Coach Nurse unveils feelings on 76ers landing Brown and Celtics getting stripped of a star

The 2025-26 season was quite a rollercoaster for the rivalry between the Celtics and 76ers.  Coach Nick Nurse got his squad to win two out of their three regular season games against the Celtics. But, it wall because Jaylen Brown did not have Jayson Tatum to help. Eventually, their superstar returned from his Achilles injury and it looked like things would be back to normal. The 76ers were on the verge of getting swept in the first round of the NBA Playoffs, but the energy shifted. For the first time in 44 years, the 76ers through Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey beat the struggling Celtics after going down 3-1.

Now, Coach Nurse and the 76ers need not worry about Brown helping the Celtics block their path to an NBA championship. He outlined his elation about this blockbuster trade, via Tony Jones of The Athletic.

«My first thoughts are that I’ve had a lot of battles against him. You watch him get a lot better from year to year and how much harder it became to game plan for him and things like that. He’s won a lot. Obviously, he’s won a title and a finals MVP. I think he’s a two-way player, and I think he’s versatile. I think he’s right there, sitting in his prime. It’s amazing that he’s a Sixer,» the 76ers head coach declared.

Notably, the 76ers picked up Brown at just the right time. He is just coming off a season where the Celtics saw him finish sixth in NBA MVP voting. It is still a question whether or not he is able to play with a loaded roster alongside Embiid, Maxey, VJ Edgecombe, and Labaron Philon. Regardless, the Celtics are weaker without Brown and that’s a win that Coach Nurse can take pride in.
