Port Adelaide gets huge contract news on key star amid uncertain future

Port Adelaide has been going through a tough time in 2026 on the field, despite results showing the club has been in most games, but it is what is happening off the field that has fans a little uneasy.

We know that the future of Zak Butters is the most talked-about thing in football, and now with his latest injury, it feels like No. 9 has played his last game for the club, barring a miraculous recovery.

The other key contract storyline is that of key forward Mitch Georgiades.

Thought to be thinking of a return home to WA, according to several reports, the prospect of Port losing two star players in one offseason would be a huge blow to what Josh Carr is trying to create.

Well, breathe easy, Port fans, because Chris Dittmar, who was talking on 104.7 Triple M, stated that Georgiades is staying at Port for the next couple of seasons.

“My information is that… Mitch Georgiades will stay, has signed, will play for Port Adelaide for the next couple of years,” Dittmar said via Fox Sports. “He’s become a very, very good player, not just a handy forward, he is a star there’s no doubt about it.

Carr keeps key forward…for now

Given where Port is with its list, keeping Butters likely isn’t the best-case scenario, although fans would want him to stay.

But the draft capital needed to get its next bunch of talented young players will likely come from Butters being traded.

Keeping Georgiades, who has risen to become one of the better forwards in football, is a good sign for Port as it stabilizes the forward line for the next couple of seasons as Carr looks to freshen up the list after the Ken Hinkley era.

Most Port fans are likely resigned to Butters being gone, but we didn’t know about Georgiades.
