Prediction Market Platform Polymarket Confirms $3.1M Cyberattack

Polymarket, the trading platform where users bet on real‑world events, has confirmed it was the target of a cyberattack that led to the theft of user funds worth about $3.1 million.

The company disclosed the breach in a brief post on X, explaining that attackers gained access through a compromised third‑party vendor. According to Polymarket, the hackers injected a malicious script “into our frontend for some users,” which allowed them to siphon money from accounts. 

The platform said it has since contained the incident, removed the affected dependency, and begun reaching out to those impacted. While Polymarket did not reveal which vendor was compromised or how many users were affected, it promised to refund victims in full. 

The company emphasized that refunds are already underway, though it stopped short of giving a timeline or exact figures.

Around 11 people were affected

Blockchain monitoring firm PeckShield estimated that roughly $3 million in cryptocurrency was stolen in the Polymarket breach, with TechCrunch reporting that about 11 users lost funds. Since Polymarket pays out in crypto, the impact was immediate for those affected.

Reaction on X to the company’s announcement was sharp. One user wrote, “I spent weeks telling you this and you ignored it. The next time I find a vulnerability, I will sell it to criminal gangs.”

Others mocked the platform, with three commenters saying Polymarket had “taunted hackers” in the past and deserved the outcome. Another user joked, “how did you not predict this?”

One of the victims speculated that the compromise may have come through Xorek Cloud’s VPS service. “I recently bought a VPS from Xorek Cloud and stored my private key on it,” they explained. “I’m not sure how the compromise happened, but that’s the only possible security risk I can think of.” Polymarket has not confirmed which vendor was breached.
