Arnold, 23, was booked Wednesday. He is facing four counts of armed robbery and four counts of kidnapping, according to authorities. The charges stem from an incident that appears to be related to multiple robberies of an Airbnb at which Arnold and his friends were staying.

Here’s what we know so far about Arnold’s arrest and the charges he faces.

Terrion Arnold charges

On Wednesday night, the Detroit Free Press’ Dave Birkett reported that Arnold was arrested and faces multiple charges related to an armed robbery and kidnapping that took place earlier in the year. He was charged with four counts of kidnapping and four counts of armed robbery. Each charge comes with a maximum sentence of life in prison.

Arnold’s arrest comes in relation to Feb. 4 incident that saw three people held hostage, robbed and pistol-whipped after reportedly being lured in by multiple people, including Arnold, per Hillsborough County’s police report.

Terrion Arnold arrest details

Arnold’s arrest comes four months after a Florida judge implicated him in a plot to carry out «vigilante justice» on three people he suspected of robbing an Airbnb in Florida where he and his friends had been staying.

Arnold was not initially charged with a crime. Hillsborough County Circuit Court Judge J. Logan Murphy claimed that Arnold’s friend, Boakai Hilton, was the mastermind behind the scheme. Murphy granted Florida’s motion for Hilton’s pretrial detention after he was handed three charges of kidnapping to harm or terrorize and three charges of robbery with a firearm. Each charge is a first-degree felony punishable by life in prison under Florida law, per NBC News.

In a statement to TMZ, Arnold’s lawyer denied any wrongdoing. The Detroit News reported that Arnold filed a police report after the residence he rented, located in Largo, Florida, was reportedly robbed twice. Among the items taken from Arnold and his friends were $100,000 in cash, an $80,000 necklace, designer bags and a cell phone issued to Arnold by the NFL, per NBC News.

On Wednesday night, Arnold turned himself in. He was summarily arrested and charged with four counts of kidnapping and four counts of armed robbery.

What is Terrion Arnold accused of doing?

Arnold faces four counts of kidnapping and four counts of armed robbery. The charges carry maximum sentences of life in prison. He is accused of being the «primary conspirator» in a Feb. 4 scheme to lure people he and his friend believed were responsible for the theft of around $250,000 in cash and other valuables.

Arnold and five others are alleged to have held the people they believed committed the heist hostage at gunpoint, robbing them before assaulting them with a pistol whip. Police determined that the people Arnold and his co-conspirators reportedly kidnapped and assaulted had nothing to do with the theft of Arnold’s Airbnb, per multiple reports.

Arnold previously denied any involvement in the case. However, on Wednesday night, he turned himself in. He is the seventh person arrested in connection with the Feb. 4 incident.

Possible sentence for kidnapping and armed robbery

Arnold is facing life in prison as a result of his charges. Two of his alleged co-conspirators have already pleaded guilty to charges related to the alleged assault on Wednesday, with one receiving a four-year sentence in Florida State Prison.

Arnold denied any involvement in the alleged kidnapping and assault in a statement released through his agency, EAG Sports Management. If his statement is any indication, he could attempt to plead not guilty to the charges, although it’s unclear at this stage what he and his lawyers are planning to do next.

What happens with the other people arrested alongside Arnold in relation to the Feb. 4 incident could help inform a potential punishment for the Lions star. The jury has to find him guilty beyond a reasonable doubt of the charges he is accused of. Even in that case, he could receive a lesser sentence if his lawyers accept a plea deal or if other parties alleged to be involved in the kidnapping and assault are deemed to have played a larger role than Arnold.

Nevertheless, Arnold’s future remains up in the air. Detroit released a statement acknowledging its cornerback’s arrest late Wednesday night.

«We are aware of the legal situation regarding Terrion Arnold,” the Lions’ statement read. “We will not comment at this time out of respect for the ongoing legal process.”

Terrion Arnold statement

Arnold’s agency, EAG Sports Management, released the following statement to Birkett after Arnold turned himself into Hillsborough County authorities on Wednesday night, declaring its client’s innocence, among other things.

«Terrion Arnold categorically denies any involvement in the matters underlying the allegations made against him and maintains his innocence,» the statement reads. «There is no credible evidence linking Mr. Arnold to these allegations. Instead, the government appears to be relying on testimony from multiple convicted felons who have admitted their own involvement and may have substantial incentives to shift blame in an effort to lessen their sentences.

«Mr. Arnold looks forward to his day in court and is confident that the judicial process will lead to his ultimate vindication.»
