The Cats leader was subject to abuse from Adelaide fans as he journeyed from Adelaide Oval coaches box to the field during Thursday night’s one-point loss to the Crows.

Adelaide Oval is one of several AFL venues where the coaches need to be chaperoned by security through the crowd, with Marvel Stadium.

Scott didn’t go into details about the incident but expressed his dismay on the path coaches have to travel through venues.

“No (words), except to say I didn’t have any words with any fans. I spoke to security. You’re reading way too much into that,» Scott said in his press conference.

“Of course they do (have words to say), they’re nuffies! But that’s okay.

“This is one of the best stadiums in the world, I love it. (But) it’s an oversight that the coaches should have to walk through the crowd. I don’t want to do it at any ground.”

Adelaide pushed the lead out to 19 points halfway through the last quarter, but a Geelong rampage scores level with a couple of minutes to play.

A late behind from Darcy Fogarty gave the Crows victory but Scott doesn’t believe the Cats faltered in the dying stages of the match.

“I don’t think it was won or lost in the last few minutes. We had our chances to win it, and we were a little bit disappointed with our execution late,” Scott said.

“It was quite impressive really to give ourselves a chance to win the game. It’s disappointing, because for the majority of the game we felt we were in it, but certainly in a lot of key areas we were well on top and weren’t able to capitalise.

“We had some positives. I don’t know if this is the right way to think about it, but a way to think about it is: ‘Losing to the Crows at the Adelaide Oval isn’t a game lost to the competition’.

“Most teams are going to struggle in that game. In a way, it would have been a game won to the rest of the competition.”
