Insane trade idea swirls around Kevin Durant and multiple first-round picks

There is growing discussion around the NBA that Kevin Durant could already find himself on the trade block with the Houston Rockets. Rumors about his long-term future in Houston continue to circulate, with several contenders like the Philadelphia 76ers emerging as possible landing spots if the Rockets decide to move him.

In this context, Fadeaway World has proposed a trade scenario.

“Philadelphia 76ers Receive: Kevin Durant. Houston Rockets Receive: Paul George, 2028 First-Round Pick (LAC), 2029 First-Round Pick (PHI), 2031 First-Round Pick (PHI). The Rockets also have to accept the George salary dump, but George will also be motivated to help them compete in the short-term. Houston could bet on Fred VanVleet’s return and the continued development of their young core to remain competitive, with George proving he can be a strong complementary piece as well,” the Fadeaway World report read.

From the Rockets’ perspective, such a deal could allow them to maintain short-term competitiveness while regaining valuable draft capital after sacrificing future assets in the Durant acquisition. Even though he signed a two-year, $90 million extension that runs through 2028, the partnership has not reportedly developed the seamless chemistry the organization had envisioned.

Meanwhile, there are off-court concerns as well, including the recent “burner account” controversy during his time in Houston, along with growing reports that his connection with the team’s younger players has not fully materialized. These factors have fueled discussions that the Rockets could ultimately shift toward a retooling approach.

As for the 76ers, they would be betting on Durant’s continued elite production. He remains one of the league’s most consistent scorers, having appeared in 78 games while averaging 26 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 4.8 assists. However, any team willing to part with three first-round picks must also take the risk, as Durant would be 38 years old by the end of his current deal in 2028.
