‘None of us are happy’: Dolphins consign Storm to all-time losses record after second half shut-out

They led at half time, again.

Yet the Melbourne Storm has lost, again.

Leading the Dolphins 10-0 deep into the first half at a wet Suncorp Stadium, the under-fire Storm was shut out in the second half to slump to a 28-10 defeat, their seventh consecutive NRL loss and the worst run in the club’s 29-year history.

While the gloomy night for Melbourne was illuminated by several moments of attacking brilliance from live wire No.1 Sua Fa’alogo, including a stunning 90-metre individual try in the 26th minute, it was an all-too-familiar ending.

It’s the fourth time during the current losing streak the Storm has led at half time only to be chased down in the second 40 minutes.

‘It’s been a big week for Craig’

Entirely understandably given his recent health diagnosis, Melbourne coach Craig Bellamy was absent from the post-match press conference with Storm GM of Football Frank Ponissi taking his place.

“It’s been a big week for Craig,” Ponissi reflected.

“So with respect, he was never coming in tonight (press conference) win, lose or draw.”

Commenting on the match itself, Ponissi admitted the Storm had a ‘very frustrated dressing room’.

“We were as good as we have played in that first half, especially defensively, we had a lot of work to do on our try line and we had made an enormous amount of tackles on our try line, so to lead 10-0 (was a great result),” he said.

As for the club record losing streak?

“None of us are happy, we’re embarrassed, frustrated, disappointed, all those emotions rolled into one,” Ponissi admitted.

“We’re thinking about next week, about Wests Tigers already.

“How can we get out of this? We took some positives out of tonight, but ultimately, you need to play for 80 minutes.”
