Coming into the ANZAC Day match on a five-game losing streak the 2024 and 2025 grand finalists were put to the sword by a rampant South Sydney Rabbitohs as they were humiliated 48-6 at AAMI Park—a ground that has been a Storm fortress for the best part of a decade but has now witnessed three losses in a row.
Playing with width and precision the Rabbitohs torched Melbourne’s defence all night, finding gaps at will through a woeful Storm line that was matched by an equally woeful completion rate of 65 per cent at the other end of the field.
Trailing 24-0 at half time, things didn’t improve after the break and if not for four missed conversions by Latrell Mitchell, it could have been the third time in just eight matches this season the Storm has conceded 50 points or more in a match.

‘The most embarrassed I’ve ever been’ says Bellamy
After the match head coach Craig Bellamy made no attempt to sugar coat what had just been served up.
“It’s probably the most embarrassed I’ve ever been in my footy life,” he said glumly.
“To come up with performance like that and a lack of effort like that on ANZAC Day is embarrassing.”

On a disastrous night the Storm’s turnstile defence was no more graphically illustrated than in the 62nd minute when Tallis Duncan was able to shrug aside Queensland captain Cameron Munster to score after an otherwise regulation hit-up.
“Duncan has just pushed away from Munster like he was a witches hat, a speed bump,” declared Dane Ginnane in commentary for Fox League.
To complete the humiliation Latrell Mitchell even slotted an entirely unnecessary two-point field goal with 11 minutes to go.
The result was South Sydney’s first ever win in Melbourne and also snapped a 15-game losing streak for Wayne Bennett coached sides against Craig Bellamy.
The Storm now sit second last on the NRL ladder ahead of only St. George Illawarra.
