Unless the Roosters can force a change of heart from the NRL, the former NSW State of Origin utility may well have played his last game for the Tricolours ahead of an off-season move to the Dragons.
Having barely come on to the field, Watson copped an accidental head knock making a goal-line tackle late in first half and left the field for an HIA that was originally deemed Category 2.
However moments later the NRL independent doctor had upgraded that to Category 1 — a decision that ruled Watson out for the rest of the Dolphins match and next weekend’s NRL grand final in Sydney.

The Roosters were far from pleased with the upgrade and it now seems the club is highly likely to appeal the independent doctor’s decision and seek medical clearance for Watson to play in the season decider.
After the match Roosters coach Trent Robinson suggested fans should ‘watch this space’.
“He’s in the middle of doing his tests now to see where he’s at,” Robinson said.
“It depends on how his tests go now, we’ll see how it goes.”
If forced to enter concussion protocols and serve the NRL’s 11-day stand down period, Watson, 30, will have played his 193rd and final game for the club he debuted with back in 2016.
