While history has shown the race for the title will be wide open, any list of favourites has to begin with the top seeds. The reigning champion Oklahoma City Thunder had the best record during the regular season and hold top honours in the Western Conference. On the other side of the bracket, the Detroit Pistons are the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference as they seek their first championship since 2004.

Other contenders include the Boston Celtics, No. 2 seed in the East; Nikola Jokic and the Denver Nuggets, who have a tough first-round matchup with Anthony Edwards’ Minnesota Timberwolves; and of course LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers, who enter the postseason hampered by injuries.
