Could one of soccer’s grandest talents take his gifts to the gridiron?

Harry Kane is a leading candidate to capture his first Ballon d’Or after enjoying the best season of his glint career. An avid NFL fan, the England talisman has flirted with replacing his soccer cleats with football ones before. His latest comments suggest he hasn’t given up on his NFL aspirations.

The Bayern Munich and England striker told reporters that he’ll consider making a career switch in the twilight of his career.

“That is something I will try and look at a bit more seriously,” Kane said, according to The Athletic. “It all depends on what happens in my career over the next five or six years, the motivation and what I want to do. The NFL is a lot more realistic than the golf one, let’s put it that way.”

A change of playing surfaces isn’t imminent, according to Kane, who also revealed that he’s «fairly close» to agreeing a new contract with Bayern Munich. Kane scored 61 goals in 51 games with the German giants last year, capturing the European Golden Shoe as the continent’s top goal-scorer.

Nevertheless, he admitted that the thought of trying his luck on the gridiron appeals to him. Kane also offered a potential vehicle for him to pursue his NFL dreams: MLS.

“Maybe if I am in the MLS in the future or somewhere like that it might be a thing where you could connect the two, with the seasons,» Kane said. “But it is in the back of my mind because right now, I am feeling that I want to play as long as I can here.”

Kane has shown no signs of slowing down in his early-30s, continuing to put forth glistening displays for one of Europe’s titans. The England captain took kindly to North American shores during the World Cup, amassing six strikes for the Three Lions, who went on to finish third in the competition.

If Kane were to attempt to earn a spot on an NFL roster in the near future, he’d become the latest in a string of former soccer talents to do so. Cowboys kicker Brandon Aubrey successfully transitioned to the gridiron — the Dallas star played in Toronto FC’s academy and the USL before landing with the Cowboys in 2023. He earned first-team All-Pro honors in his first NFL season. Ahead of the 2026 season, Aubrey inked a four-year, $28 million deal ($20 million guaranteed) to return to Dallas — the largest kicker contract in NFL history.

Kane feels he has the capabilities — and work ethic — to find success with a helmet on.

“I take penalties and it is a very similar pressure and technique,” Kane said. “If I did that, in terms of training, I would be closer to that more than to any other sport.
