Emre Guler hasn’t wasted any time making an impression in the English Super League.

Barely a month ago he was still playing NRL with St. George Illawarra, however after being granted an early contract release in August the veteran forward linked with Wakefield Trinity just in time to be part of their Super League play-offs campaign.

Alas, things haven’t quite gone to plan.

The forward was sent off following a clash with Owen Trout in last weekend’s 26-16 elimination play-off win against Leigh Leopards and subsequently hit with a two-match ban for punching.

Guler and the club then unsuccessfully challenged the charge, only to see his ban increased to three matches.

It means Guler will miss Saturday’s crucial sudden death semi-final against the Wigan Warriors and, should Wakefield win, he will also be unavailable for the 2026 Super League grand final.

If this situation feels somewhat familiar, it follows another former NRL star Tevita Pangai Jnr who spent more than half his time with Hull KR this season serving suspensions totalling a whopping 10 weeks.
