Herrington put in a solid shift as the middle central defender in the Hull City three-man last line, playing the entire match and assuming the role as defence leader in marshaling and organisation.
The Socceroos talent didn’t play a part in Sunderland’s goal, with Hull City caught out from their own attacking corner, as the Black Cats swept the ball from one end to the other on the counter attack before Chemsdine Talbi executed a magnificent chip to win the game on 86 minutes.

Herrington produced some impressive statistic lines in the match, including a 97 per cent passing success rate in his own half (36 out of 37 passes) and 86 per cent passing success rate over the entire pitch — which is impressive considering the need to play long and attacking balls.
Prior to the Sunderland game, Hull City coach Sergej Jakirovic was full of praise for Herrington, despite the defensive talent still being a teenager for another 12 months.

«I don’t have any fear when he’s on the pitch, I believe in him 100 per cent.
«He’s excellent. He has great potential. With this experience, he will grow also.
«It will be very good for him and a great experience for him. These minutes are very valuable for him.
«Just stay healthy and everything is possible.»
Herrington’s next chance for Hull City action comes in the Premier League match away at Chelsea on Sunday 12:00am (AEST).
