St Kilda hasn’t been very active this offseason, with the only big move being Rowan Marshall finally moving to Geelong.

One player has gone out, but no one has come in, for a club many see as in desperation mode to improve the list.

But that brings us to a tough question to answer. Who should they be targeting?

We don’t know their cap situation, or other irons they have in the fire, but the Saints can’t go into next season without adding talent, can they?

For Tom Morris, he thinks the Saints should be on the phone to Collingwood, trying to get two of their stars whose futures are uncertain right now.

“I love what St Kilda are doing. They are all in, they are having a crack,” Morris told Trade Radio via SEN.

“They don’t love the draft picks. I don’t know what their salary cap looks like — I’d imagine it’s fairly tight based on the payment for some other players, although if they wanted to pay Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera, it would get even more tight.

“If I’m the Saints and I’ve got the money, and if they’re into Jordan De Goey and Dan Houston, they should say, ‘here Collingwood, we’ve got Pick 10 and we’ve got Pick 16, bang bang. Let’s go.’

“10 and 16 for Houston and De Goey. That’s the approach that they’re taking. Houston and De Goey — if you put them into the St Kilda line up it makes them better.”

Could Saints do it?

Of course they could, but there are a couple of things that stand out as roadblocks.

The first is the money. Do the Saints have enough cap space to fit both? It won’t exactly be a cheap exercise.

And the second is, would Collingwood take just picks 10 and 16 for two star players? I fail to see a scenario where the Pies say yes to that deal.

Plus, they’ve added Jesse Hogan and Lachie Neale. They are clearly going for another premiership tilt, and taking out Houston and De Goey would put them further away from that goal.

So yes, it is a nice idea from Morris; I just fail to see how the Pies would say yes to that deal.
