Knights CEO Peter Parr has released a statement on behalf of the NRL Grand Finalists, expressing the club’s deep support for everyone impacted by the serious vehicle incident in Newcastle on Saturday morning.
With multiple people taken to hospital with serious injuries after a car drove into fans lining the roadside in Wallsend, Parr said those injured were on the team’s mind as it prepares for Sunday night’s season decider against the Roosters.
“Our thoughts and prayers are first and foremost with everyone who has been injured, their families and loved ones, and everyone who witnessed what occurred,” Parr said.

“What was meant to be a special morning for our community, thousands of Novocastrians coming together to farewell our team and show their support ahead of the Grand Final, has understandably turned into a distressing morning,” Parr added.
While the events at Wallsend forced last-minute changes that meant thousands of Knights fans missed the opportunity to cheer on the players as they left for Sydney, Parr acknowledged they were very much aware of the magnificent community turnout.

“Newcastle is a strong community. We have seen that strength throughout this week, and today we need to draw on it again with compassion, care and support for those who need it most.”
