The off-season has started well for South Sydney with confirmation Tallis Duncan has been extended until at least the end of 2030.

Set to hit the open market on November 1 the 24-year-old was understood to be in the tax-free sights of the PNG Chiefs for 2028 and beyond, but fans can rest easy knowing he won’t be joining veteran winger Alex Johnston in Port Moresby any time soon.

While highly valued at the club, there had been genuine fears the dynamic back rower and centre may be squeezed out given rising salary cap pressure on the Rabbitohs who have a long list of stars coming off contract at the end of 2027, coupled with the big-money arrival next season of Payne Haas.

Duncan was named in the RLPA Dream Team as a second-rower in 2026 and given his ability to play multiple positions at an elite level, he has also been heavily linked with potential Australian selection for the upcoming 2026 Rugby League World Cup.

“I’m really happy to be staying at Souths, I love this club and this is my home,” Duncan said on confirmation of his extension.

“I’ve grown a lot since I first came to the club and I’m grateful for everything Souths has given me.

“Putting on the Souths jersey means a lot to me, and I’m excited for what’s ahead.”

Other off-contract Rabbitohs set to be free agents from November 1 include David Fifita, Latrell Mitchell, Brandon Smith, Jack Wighton and Campbell Graham.
