The Presidents Cup officially opened on Thursday afternoon, as the United States looks to defend its title in Chicago, Illinois. So, what better way of celebrating the moment than including one of Chicago’s most famous actors: Bill Murray.

A longtime sports fan and Chicago native, Murray has appeared at many sporting events around the Chicago area as both a fan and a special guest. Since golf doesn’t come to Chicago very often, he surely was not going to miss this Presidents Cup.

In fact, Murray’s entrance was particularly special, as he tried to get the crowd going before the first match teed off. Watch how Murray’s entrance ignited the crowd.

Bill Murray «chugs» out of Presidents Cup trophy

With the Presidents Cup kicking off on Thursday afternoon from Medinah Golf Club in Chicago, the United States team brought out Bill Murray to help open the ceremony. The 76-year-old had the honor of bringing out the trophy to the first tee, and he played up the moment but pumping up the crowd and pretending to chug out of the cup.

Murray is no stranger to sporting events in Chicago, as he has become a staple at Cubs baseball games and was a central fan figure during the team’s 2016 World Series run. Murray also frequently attended UConn basketball games when his son was an assistant coach under Dan Hurley.

However, Murray is an especially inspired choice for this golf tournament as he is a huge golf fan himself. Murray was a star in the golf movie Caddyshack, which was one of his earliest roles in Hollywood, and he also helped co-found a golf clothing and apparel company called William Murray.

Where is Bill Murray from?

Murray was born in Evanston, Illinois, which is a suburb of Chicago and where Northwestern University is located. As a result, he is a fan of the Cubs, Bears, Bulls and Blackhawks, and has attended sporting events in the city of Chicago as a public figure despite his fame.
