Cody Walker is likely to remain at South Sydney for the 2027 NRL season, with the Rabbitohs preparing to offer their veteran playmaker a one-year contract extension.

CODE Sports has reported Souths are set to offer Walker a 12-month deal after the 36-year-old finished the 2026 season in outstanding form.

The proposed deal would reportedly be worth around $300,000 for the season, with Walker’s future having been one of the major questions facing the Rabbitohs heading into the off-season.

Walker was one of South Sydney’s most important players in 2026, finishing the regular season with 26 try assists and 27 line-break assists.

He also formed an impressive halves combination with emerging halfback Ashton Ward, with Souths winning 11 of the 14 games in which the pair started together.

Walker suffered a calf injury during the Rabbitohs’ elimination-final loss to Newcastle, but his form in the weeks leading into the finals strengthened the case for Souths to keep their veteran playmaker for another season.

The new deal would also allow Walker to continue his development into a coaching role at South Sydney, with the club reportedly planning to transition him into its coaching staff following the 2027 season.

Walker has been at South Sydney since making his NRL debut in 2016 and has played all 222 of his NRL games for the club.

The one-year extension would give Walker another opportunity to chase a premiership with the Rabbitohs before potentially beginning the next stage of his career in coaching.
