At the end of August, just a couple of weeks before the NFL’s opening games kicked off, Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Keenan Allen was arrested for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated.

The new Colt was parked in a no-parking zone, which prompted officers to investigate what his car was doing there. After picking up a scent of alcohol, his blood-alcohol levels were tested. The police received a number they were far from satisfied with, and Allen was arrested on a Class A misdemeanor charge.

Keenan Allen suspension

According to Adam Schefter, Allen could face a minimum three-game suspension in relation to his DUI arrest in late August. These three-game suspensions are required by the NFL’s collective bargaining agreement, which also states that suspensions could vary based on the player’s intoxication level.

On August 30, police officers arrested Allen after he tallied a .224 blood-alcohol level. This was almost three times the legal limit, meaning the league could decide to increase the three-game ban the veteran WR is already facing since he received a Class A misdemeanor charge.

Keenan Allen DUI arrest

The second-to-last day of August featured the 34-year-old pass-catcher being pulled over during a traffic investigation. According to ESPN, an Indianapolis police sergeant encountered Allen at 1 a.m. while he was parked in a no-parking zone, per the police report.

This was the impetus for the officer to address Allen, which was then followed by the officer noticing the smell of alcohol from Allen and his vehicle. Police officers on the scene gave Allen a BAC test, which returned a .224 reading. The Colts WR was promptly arrested, as this number was three times the legal limit for operating a motor vehicle.

The league is expected to wait for Allen’s legal case to come to a close before it makes a decision on how many games the receiver may have to miss. The case’s attorney conference is currently scheduled for Oct. 26.
