Sydney Roosters coach Trent Robinson is confident Daly Cherry-Evans and Sam Walker will be reunited in the halves for next Friday night’s NRL preliminary final against the Dolphins in Brisbane.

After ending the Sharks’ season 46-10 at Allianz Stadium, Robinson backed injured No.7 Sam Walker to make an early return from ankle surgery, less than a month after suffering a syndesmosis injury against the Dolphins on 29 August.

“Pretty confident from what we’ve seen,” Robinson said after the Sharks match.

“He hasn’t trained with us yet, but he’s had really good progressions.”

Robinson was equally as confident about his other playmaker Daly Cherry-Evans who was placed on report in the 60th minute for tripping after using his right leg in an attempted tackle on Sharks forward Teig Wilton. 

A suspension could potentially end DCE’s Roosters and NRL career, but it’s hard to see him missing a final over the incident with a Grade 1 charge and fine shaping as the likely outcome from the NRL Match Review Committee.

“Not concerned at all to be honest,” Robinson said, before singing the 377-game veteran’s praises.

“He absolutely nailed the halfback role for us tonight… there was great space created and he made some really good choices on the end of the line about how to pass or kick that ball.”

The Roosters will now face the Dolphins next Friday night at a heaving Suncorp Stadium, with the winner advancing to the NRL Grand Final at Accor Stadium in Sydney on October 4.
