Curaçao Gambling Authority Hit by Hackers

The Curaçao Gaming Authority (CGA) has confirmed that its online gaming portal was the target of unauthorized access, an incident that has now been contained.

The regulator stated in a Thursday release that the breach was discovered and immediately met with a response from both the Authority and its service provider, who activated incident procedures and began a forensic investigation.

While the source of the intrusion has been identified, the CGA shared that the full scope of what was accessed remains under review. “The CGA is currently assessing whether and which information was accessed, as well as the potential consequences arising from such access.”

Too early for firm conclusions, regulator says

The CGA explained that its core technical infrastructure has not been compromised, but stressed that it is too early to draw firm conclusions about the overall impact. The regulator is currently assessing whether sensitive information was reached and what consequences may follow. 

“The unauthorized access has been contained and the source of the access has been identified,” the Authority stated, adding that further monitoring and security measures have already been put in place as a precaution.

The investigation is ongoing, and the CGA has pledged to notify any individuals, applicants, licensees, or stakeholders if their data is found to have been affected. The Authority emphasized its commitment to transparency, noting that updates will be shared as more facts are established. 

For now, officials are treating the matter with “the utmost seriousness” and are working closely with their provider and relevant authorities to determine the extent of the breach.

“The CGA recognizes the concern that this incident may cause and remains committed to transparency throughout this process.”
