The Dolphins have moved to secure their halves depth ahead of the departure of Kodi Nikorima, finally locking in utility Brad Schneider on a two-year extension that will keep him at Redcliffe until the end of 2028.

It’s a timely bit of business for both club and player ahead of next week’s home preliminary final given Schneider has remained off contract for next season through the entirety of 2026.

The versatile 25-year-old has been a genuine bargain buy for the Dolphins in his first season since joining from Penrith, providing valuable spine and backline cover while racking up 13 NRL appearances in the red and white.

With veteran Kodi Nikorima off to the Dragons at the end of the season, a permanent halves spot alongside Isaiya Katoa will soon open up and Schneider is set to go head-to-head for it with English international George Williams who will join Kristian Woolf’s squad in the off-season.

Dolphins chief executive Terry Reader said locking in Schneider — alongside exciting outside back Tevita Naufahu who penned his own two-year extension through to 2029 this week — was an important move for the club as it builds for the future.

“He has provided us with quality and depth in the halves and has made a real impact in his first season at the club.”

The news around Schneider and Naufahu comes at the perfect time for the Dolphins, who will host their first preliminary final next weekend at Suncorp Stadium against the winner of the Roosters-Sharks semi-final with a spot in the club’s maiden NRL grand final on the line.
