In what is a huge move, the Roos now shake up the entire offseason and are on the lookout for their next coach.

There was a thought that Clarkson could be under pressure next season for his job, but clearly he and the club felt like the time was right to part ways after four seasons.

In truth, the Roos didn’t develop into the team many thought they would under Clarkson, with just 20 wins from 82 games under his watch and no finals appearances.

What went wrong for Clarkson at North?

Well, where do you start?

Injuries certainly played their roles, and so too did the poor draft selections, with only Harry Sheezel, George Wardlaw (maybe), Colby McKercher, and Finn O’Sullivan having «hit.»

Other moves for Dylan Stephens, Zac Fisher, Jack Darling, Caleb Daniel, along with the acquisition of Griffen Logue on big money, it hasn’t been the best of times for the Roos in terms of talent being brought into the club.

Yes, they’ve been fine, but the Roos didn’t need fine. They needed difference-makers, ones to help push this team forward. And they didn’t.

Then we add losing Jason Horne-Francis back to Port Adelaide, which set them back, and suddenly you get an idea of what went wrong for the Roos.

They did show promise at times, but never finishing above 14th was also likely a big reason why the club decided to move on.
