Speaking after the Storm’s 46-20 win at Suncorp Stadium — where the the ‘receive’ option was only chosen twice from 12 opportunities — Brisbane coach Michael Maguire was far from convinced it should be adopted by the game’s powerbrokers.

“I’m not sure whether it’ll come in or not,” Maguire said.

“I do like the game the way it is, it’s a great game so you don’t need to tinker too far especially the way the game’s going at the moment.”

‘There’s no real reward for it’ says Grant

Melbourne Storm captain Harry Grant was far more direct, suggesting other rule changes have caused the current problems within the game.

“Personally I’ve loved the game since I was four years old,” Grant said.

“I think (the kick-off) is part of the fabric of the game and we don’t need to change it, we’re bringing in a rule to counteract the other rules we’ve brought in.

“Maybe we can have a deep hard look at going back on a few other rules if that’s where we sit with it.

“There’s no real reward for it and I’m pretty strong on that… maybe it’s time to stay with what it is.”

Speaking before the Round 26 match Storm coach Craig Bellamy also admitted he was far from convinced by the need for the change.

“It’s something that someone thinks might be a good idea,” Bellamy said dryly.
