The new deal is expected to be announced before this year’s NRL finals and will likely see Yeo end his career as a one-club player.

One of a swathe of senior Panthers stars set to come off contract on November 1, the 31-year-old has played 283 games for Penrith in 13 seasons after making his NRL debut in 2014.

Yeo’s extension comes at a highly opportune time as the Panthers attempt to fight off raids on other stars from the PNG Chiefs.

In particular, the Chiefs are reportedly preparing to sell the farm in an attempt to land Nathan Cleary for 2028 with a multi-million-dollar tax-free deal that could see Cleary become the highest paid player in NRL history.

Representative winger Brian To’o has already signed with the Chiefs while dynamic back rower Liam Martin may yet join him after putting contract negotiations on hold.

Several other Panthers stars have already signed extensions to remain at the club including Mitch Kenny, Casey McLean, Paul Alamoti, Tom Jenkins, Lindsay Smith and Isaiah Papali’i.
