Here’s a rule change the whole NRL community can get behind.

With just two rounds remaining in the 2026 NRL home and away season, South Sydney has confirmed it has received special permission to allow Jai Arrow to take the field in Rounds 26 and 27.

Currently having played 98 matches since joining Souths from the Titans in 2021, the rule change will give the Rabbitohs an extra interchange allowing Arrow to reach 100 games for the club.

“Jai will suit up for, and take part in, the opening seconds of the Rabbitohs round 26 match against Jai’s former club, the Gold Coast Titans, on the Gold Coast, and in the round 27 home match against the Sydney Roosters at Allianz Stadium, allowing him to register two more NRL games, taking his tally for South Sydney to 100 matches,” the club announced.

South Sydney explained it had put a proposal to the NRL, the RLPA and the Club Consultation Committee for Arrow to officially feature in two more NRL games for the club while he is still physically able to run or walk on to the field.

Earlier in the year Arrow was emotionally named as an extended reserve in Round 15 after being tragically diagnosed with motor neurone disease, or MND, at the age of just 31.

But this time he will actually take the field alongside his teammates, albeit for only a few moments of actual play.

Surely there won’t be a dry eye in the house. Or at home.
