Seriously, the knee jerk coverage of Richmond’s Mad Monday celebrations beggars belief, driven not by actual community outrage but confected sensationalism 101.

We all know what’s driven this mindless frenzy, of course.

But it’s dead wrong and to even attempt to conflate the events of last week with these is as desperate as it is pathetic, and completely disingenuous.

As far as Mad Mondays go what we saw yesterday from the Tigers was surely some of the tamest behaviour on record.

I mean, the nerve of these young men. Whose idea was it hold a private function at a quiet country pub on a Monday — the quietest day of the week? The sheer temerity to have a drink at said pub? And to take your shirt off and engage in a bit of lighthearted pranking with your mates?

They weren’t even in fancy dress for goodness sake.

Have no doubt, this is heavy duty criminal behaviour right here folks. Lock them up and throw away the key, next stop is the total collapse of civilised society.

How dare these young men not account for some random troublemakers secretly filming them and then plastering their images all over the telly and social media.

At the end of a long and difficult season the Tiges players had every right to catch up and blow off some steam, far away from the prying eyes of the media and public.

Are we really saying that young people can no longer let their hair down and have some fun in private? All because of the actions of others?

Unless I’ve missed something, no laws were broken, except perhaps the invasion of the Richmond players’ privacy.

Sometimes I really am embarrassed to be part of this industry.
