The Melbourne Storm has confirmed a majority stake in the NRL’s lone Victorian club has been sold to Swedish investment giant, EQT, for a reported $150 million.

Subject to final approval by the ARLC, the club confirmed on Wednesday that EQT will join the Storm’s ownership group on the Board of Directors.
Matt Tripp will remain chairman of the club, while chief executive Justin Rodski, head coach Craig Bellamy and football director Frank Ponissi will all continue in their current roles.
“We conducted a thorough process to find the right partner to help us to continue driving the club forward and are pleased to be able to do so with EQT joining our ownership group,” Tripp said.

Founded in Sweden in 1994, EQT manages approximately $400 billion in assets globally and already has a significant stake in the professional sports landscape.
EQT is a global sports partner of the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) and the Great Britain SailGP Team, while it also owns IMG Academy, one of the world’s leading athlete development and education institutions.
It was also a major early backer of Sportradar — a sports data, odds and betting-technology company that was publicly listed in 2021.
