Trevor Goosby, Texas avoid worst-case scenario following practice scare

Texas received some much-needed clarity on Tuesday regarding star offensive tackle Trevor Goosby.

The Longhorns’ starting left tackle was diagnosed with a bone bruise following an MRI Tuesday morning, according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel. The preseason All-American left Monday’s practice after suffering a non-contact knee injury.

His timetable remains unclear, and while a torn ACL or other major ligament injury would likely have ended Goosby’s season, a bone bruise could still sideline him for an extended period of time depending on its severity.

Goosby is arguably the most important piece of Texas’ offense other than quarterback Arch Manning. The 6-foot-7 tackle received First-Team All-SEC honors last season after starting all 13 games for the Longhorns and is a projected first-round pick in the 2027 NFL Draft.

Losing Goosby for the season would have been a devastating blow to a Texas team with national championship aspirations. However, if Goosby is forced to miss any games, it would leave the Longhorns with a significant hole to fill on their offensive line, especially with the September 12 showdown against Ohio State less than a month away.

Texas will open the 2026 regular season on September 5 against the Texas State Bobcats, with kickoff scheduled for 2:30 p.m. CT on ESPN.
