He may not know where he’ll be playing in 2027, but off-contract Rabbitohs forward Adam Elliott isn’t too worried.

Two games back from a serious ankle injury that was originally thought to have ended his season, Elliott spoke with the media ahead of Friday night’s crucial Round 24 clash with the Bulldogs.

“I’ve got a short-term focus, I’m not really thinking long-term at the moment,” Elliott said of his contract situation, having been limited to just six matches in 2026, after managing only seven for the Knights in 2025 due a ruptured biceps.

“It’s about trying to get some more minutes, get some more gas in the tank and get better each week because we’ve still got a few games leading into finals.”

‘I’d love to hang around’ says Elliott 

Despite the ongoing uncertainty around his playing future, the 31-year-old said he’s simply enjoying being back on the field with a team he loves being part of.

“I find it a privilege to be part of (the Rabbitohs) and I just wanted to get back as soon as I could to play,” he explained while admitting he doesn’t want to go anywhere else next season.

“I absolutely love the club… I feel very grateful to be a part of the squad, part of the team, I have a really good relationship with all of them and I’d love to hang around.”

Unsurprisingly given their places on the NRL ladder (7th for the Rabbitohs and 9th for the Bulldogs), Elliott said Friday night’s clash with his former club Canterbury shapes as one of the most important games of the year.

A win will put the Bunnies three wins ahead of the Bulldogs and all but guarantee the club plays finals footy for the first time since 2022.
