White Sox broadcaster’s Steven Kwan ‘power’ take ages poorly seconds later

Cleveland Guardians outfielder Steven Kwan gave Chicago White Sox broadcaster immediate reason to reassess his remarks about his power-hitting abilities on Friday night.

During the Guardians’ sixth inning against the White Sox at Rate Field, White Sox color analyst Steve Stone was talking about Kwan’s hitting approach and suggested the outfielder was trying to do something outside his usual game.

«Doesn’t do himself any favors when he’s trying to hit home runs because maybe, maybe in a huge year he’d have 10,» Stone said. «That’s not enough to take 30-40 points off your batting average, which is something that will happen when you’re not a power hitter but trying to act like one.»

Just seconds later, Kwan’s barrel made the broadcaster hit his own words as Stone was left to witness a powerful right-field home run. This was Kwan’s second home run of the year.

«You are not a power hitter but trying to act like one.»

Kwan is a contact hitter with superior base-running skills. Since making his debut in 2022, he has managed to reach double figures in the home run column just twice (in 2025 and 2024). This is why his power-hitting abilities are always a point of concern.

Steven Kwan in the middle of a hot stretch

Steven Kwan is hitting really well since July 1, leading the MLB with a .398 batting average and .486 on-base percentage. During this stretch, the Guardians star slugger has managed to lift his average from .212 to .260.

Last month, the outfielder connected 31 hits with an impressive .403 batting average and .484 on-base percentage. In August, he is 6-for-16 already.

Kwan’s hot hitting could come in handy for the Guardians as they face the White Sox and the Detroit Tigers in their seven-game road trip. If the team has any chance to make the postseason this fall, they must ensure big wins in the next two weeks.
