The Parramatta Eels have had enough, and you can’t blame them.
Following several days of underhanded accusations and innuendo surrounding one of its veteran players, the western Sydney club has released a strongly-worded statement from CEO Jim Sarantinos defending Dylan Walker while also suggesting legal action may be coming for those believed to have started the rumours on social media following the Eels’ decision to rest the 31-year-old for their Round 23 match with the Rabbitohs.

“The Parramatta Eels are aware of false rumours and innuendo circulating on social media about one of our players, Dylan Walker,” the statement read.
“The claims are completely false and unfair on Dylan and his family.”
Sarantinos continued by slamming the current situation that has seen a player forced to defend himself ‘against baseless online speculation’.
“Everyone needs to understand how reckless and irresponsible this conduct is, and the real impact it has on people. We are not going to stand for it,” Sarantinos said.
“Passion for the club and the game is welcome. Defamation, abuse and the deliberate spread of falsehoods are not.”
The statement ended with a warning that the Eels may seek to take the matter further on behalf of Walker.
“The Club will be reviewing its legal options against those responsible for creating and spreading these false rumours,” it ended.
The response to the Eels’ statement has been swift and almost universally supportive, with those responsible for the original rumours now facing intense scrutiny for their actions.
