Atlanta Falcons

After racking up nearly 2,300 scrimmage yards last season, Bijan Robinson has a real case to be the NFL’s best running back entering 2026. He’s now being paid like it.

Robinson broke the bank early Tuesday morning, agreeing to a contract extension just a week after sitting out of practice in hopes of putting pressure on the Falcons to work out a new deal.

The former No. 8 overall pick has yet to make a playoff appearance, but he was the focal point of Atlanta’s offense with 1,478 rushing yards, 820 receiving yards and 11 total touchdowns in 2025.

Here are the full details of Robinson’s new deal.

Bijan Robinson contract details

Robinson agreed to a three-year, $66.75 million contract extension worth as much as $75 million with incentives, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Robinson is receiving $51 million in guarantees.

While that figure might not jump off the page because it’s only a three-year deal, it’s a new high-water mark for running backs. At $22.25 million per year, Robinson easily surpasses Saquon Barkley as the NFL’s highest-paid running back.

Robinson can afford to settle for three years, as he still has to play out this season on his rookie contract and the 2027 season on his fifth-year option before the extension kicks in for the 2028 campaign.

The deal should allow Robinson to quickly return to practice with plenty of time to prepare for the start of the season.

Robinson is coming off back-to-back seasons of more than 1,400 rushing yards, and he made his biggest impact as a pass-catcher in 2025 with 820 yards through the air for nearly 2,300 total scrimmage yards.

The former first-round pick is averaging nearly five yards per carry in three NFL seasons and has seen his efficiency improve with each season.

Highest-paid RBs in NFL

Robinson is now the NFL’s highest-paid running back at $22.25 million per year:

PlayerAverage salaryTeam
Bijan Robinson$22.25 millionFalcons
Saquon Barkley$20.6 millionEagles
Christian McCaffrey$19 million49ers
De’Von Achane$16 millionDolphins
Derrick Henry$15 millionRavens
Breece Hall$14.5 millionJets
Kenneth Walker III$14.35 millionChiefs
Jonathan Taylor$14 millionColts
Jeremiyah Love$13.26 millionCardinals
Alvin Kamara$12.25 millionSaints

Robinson and Saquon Barkley are the NFL’s only $20 million-per-year running backs, followed by Christian McCaffrey at $19 million annually.

The deal is also the largest active contract for a running back in terms of total value, as even a four-year deal signed by De’Von Achane this offseason doesn’t match the $66.75 million value of Robinson’s deal over three years.

How old is Bijan Robinson?

Robinson is still only 24 and won’t turn 25 until Jan. 30, 2027. His new deal is set to expire shortly after his 29th birthday.
