Staggering Olympic medal reality behind Lachlan Kennedy’s Australian 100-metre record in Glasgow
Lachlan Kennedy has been close a few times.
Now the 22-year-old from Brisbane has finally set a new Australian record in the men’s 100 metre final at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in a blistering time of 9.85 seconds, on a wet track no less.

Kennedy’s time broke the previous wind-legal mark of 9.93 seconds held by Patrick Johnson since 2003 and was enough to take the silver medal in Glasgow.
But what would his Commonwealth Games time have placed him on the greatest stage of all — Olympic Games finals?
The impressive news is Kennedy’s time would have earned a medal in eight of the ten Olympic Games finals held since the infamous Ben Johnson final in Seoul 1988.

Not bad considering the former Gregory Terrace student is still just 22 and years away from reaching his peak as a track sprinter.
