Micah Parsons’ projected return date lines up perfectly with Cowboys revenge matchup

The Micah Parsons saga with the Dallas Cowboys never ended clean and this latest update only adds drama to it. He is working his way back from a torn ACL and his recovery timeline targets a primetime return against his former team.

Parsons dominated for Dallas during his first four seasons, winning the 2021 Defensive Rookie of the Year award and earning four All-Pro honors. However, a contract dispute with Jerry Jones escalated before the 2025 season. 

Dallas ultimately traded him to the Green Bay Packers for defensive tackle Kenny Clark and two first-round draft picks. Parsons’ start with the Packers after the blockbuster trade was solid, but his season ended abruptly in Week 15 when he suffered a non-contact ACL tear against the Denver Broncos.

Now the injury clock is setting up a storyline nobody could’ve scripted better. Appearing on «The Pat McAfee Show,» The Athletic’s Matt Schneidman dropped the Packers’ recovery protocol and where it points right now.

«The Packers have a strict nine-month no football rule after ACL tears, and Micah’s wasn’t even a clean ACL tear,» Schneidman said. «He had a meniscus injury too, so he had to get that repaired. So the earliest we’ll see him on the field, even on the practice field, is September 30th.»

He added, «That would be nine months and one day after his surgery. If we think he needs a couple weeks to get ramped up, he’s probably going to return Week 6 here at Lambeau, Sunday Night Football, against who? The Dallas Cowboys.»

Schneidman later called that timeline a best-case scenario. Parsons himself has stressed patience over rushing back, telling reporters in June his focus is finishing the season healthy and pushing for a playoff run rather than forcing an early return.

Green Bay and Dallas played to a thrilling 40-40 tie last season with Parsons on the field. If his Week 6 recovery timeline stays on track, this upcoming rematch will have even higher stakes.
