‘I’ll do what the team wants’: Trbojevic responds to Manly centre switch calls

Forget halfbacks being asked to play at lock.

On the northern beaches, a very different player could soon be asked to once again play a different position in an attempt to prolong his career.

Manly Sea Eagles fullback Tom Trbojevic has responded to calls for him to move to the centres after being laid low by yet another hamstring injury.

Appearing on 100% Footy on Nine, the 29-year-old was asked straight up how he’d react if the club said they wanted him to play in the centres to try and prevent his persistent hamstring issues.

Trbojevic couldn’t have been clearer in his response.

“I’ll do what the team wants me to do,” he said.

“Whatever Foz (Kieran Foran) wants, I’m happy… if he wants me to play fullback I still feel like I can go out there and influence a game of footy.

“But whether that’s a move to centres or a move somewhere else, I’m really happy just to get my body right and go after it.”

‘I’m not thinking about getting injured’

Asked how he continues to manage the mental side of having so many injury setbacks in his career, Trbojevic said he simply doesn’t think about it.

“I pride myself on working really hard (in rehab) and doing the reps to get confidence,” he said.

“So when I’m back playing, I’m not thinking about getting injured, I’m just thinking about going out there and playing footy.”

Currently sitting 10th, two wins outside the NRL top eight, Manly has the bye in Round 22 and Trbojevic is aiming to return against Melbourne the following week when the two sides clash at HBF Park in Perth for Round 23.
