Mia Bieniemy was hospitalized with «serious injuries,» ESPN reported Monday, citing police. Eric was with the Chiefs in Missouri earlier Sunday as the team practiced on its second day of training camp.

The Chiefs released a statement Monday morning confirming they are «aware of the incident involving Eric Bieniemy’s family» but did not offer any additional details.

Eric Bieniemy wife shooting updates

Bieniemy’s wife was shot multiple times inside the family’s home in Ashburn, Virginia, on Sunday night. Loudoun County police confirmed an individual was hospitalized with «serious injuries,» and ESPN reports that person is Mia Bieniemy.

The 57-year-old was shot in the arm and chest; she is in stable condition, ESPN reports.

The incident occurred close to 7:30 p.m. ET on Sunday, with Eric in Missouri for Chiefs training camp at the time.

On Monday morning, the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office charged Eric and Mia’s 27-year-old son, Elijah, with malicious wounding, use of a firearm in commission of a felony and discharge of a firearm inside of a dwelling. Elijah is being held without bond.

Eric has stepped away from the team to be with his family, the Chiefs told USA Today.

After Monday morning’s Chiefs practice, coach Andy Reid confirmed Mia is in «stable condition» and called her a «saint.»

Who shot Eric Bieniemy’s wife?

27-year-old Elijah Bieniemy, the son of Eric and Mia, has been charged in the shooting of his mother.

According to the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office, Elijah is facing three charges: with malicious wounding, use of a firearm in commission of a felony and discharge of a firearm inside of a dwelling. Elijah is currently being held without bond at a detention facility.

Elijah Bieniemy charges

27-year-old Elijah Bieniemy is facing three charges from the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office:

  • Malicious wounding
  • Use of a firearm in commission of a felony
  • Discharge of a firearm inside a dwelling

Elijah is being held without bail at an adult detention center, the sheriff’s office says.

Who is Eric Bieniemy’s wife?

Mia Bieniemy, 57, is the wife of Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy. The two have two children together, but Mia otherwise keeps a low profile.

The two live in Ashburn, Virginia, which is also the home of the Commanders’ practice facility. Eric spent one season with the Commanders in 2023 but split the last two years between UCLA and the Chicago Bears in assistant roles. He returned to the Chiefs this offseason to replace Matt Nagy as offensive coordinator.
