Brazilian Court Imposes New Advertising Restrictions on Virginia Fonseca and Blaze

The Court of Justice of the Federal District and Territories (TJDFT) has announced new restrictions on the use of influencer Virginia Fonseca and betting operator Blaze in gambling ads. On July 21, the decision was published, partially granting the Public Prosecutor’s Office of the Federal District and Territories (MPDFT) appeal.

Judge Renato Rodovalho Scussel determined that Blaze and Virginia Fonseca are prohibited from advertising their games in such a way that the player is led to believe that the game is a source of fixed profit, or that by playing the game they can expect to make money, or that gambling is a substitute for work, or that it can solve financial problems. The ruling also bars advertisements suggesting that there is no risk of money loss.

The ruling broadens the scope of gambling-related communications regulated by the courts and strengthens transparency rules for gambling-related promotions posted by influencers.

Sponsored Content must Be Clearly Identified

It affects every sort of gambling promotional material that Virginia Fonseca shares on her stories, reels, social media posts, and live broadcasts. Any sponsored product must be clearly and prominently labeled as advertising, even when presented as part of the content of her personal life, travel, or daily activities.

The court also set new standards for bonuses and free spins promotions. Blaze will have to clearly specify the terms and conditions of participation, such as the terms for deposits, the validity periods, the conditions of withdrawal of the funds, and any other restrictions that may apply.

Judge Scussel also ordered the deletion of anything that infringes on the ruling within 48 hours. Violations will incur a fine of BRL 100,000 (maximum total amount is BRL 2 million).

Court Rejects Revenue Share Suspension Request

The court granted a number of advertising limitations but refused the MPDFT’s request for any suspension on any possible revenue-sharing deal to compensate the influencers for any losses gamblers might suffer. At this time, there is no evidence of a contractual model, the ruling states.

The court also did not grant the request that asked to delete all the gambling-related content that the influencer shared before.

The MPDFT had previously filed a civil action, asking for compensation from bettors who were diagnosed with gambling addiction and up to BRL 380 million in collective moral damages from Blaze, earlier this week. Prosecutors say both the operator and the influencer were guilty of “misleading and abusive gambling advertising.”

Financial Records Reveal Blaze’s Brazilian Operations

According to MPDFT accounting records, Blaze is estimated to have taken in around BRL 11 billion in player deposits in Brazil for the course of 2025. The financial statements show that gross revenue was BRL 1.9 billion while net revenue was BRL 1.1 billion.

During the 11 months studied, Blaze’s net profit amounted to some BRL 361 million, giving a profit margin of around 33%. Other documents show that the company’s foreign parent received BRL 350 million.

The records also reveal considerable amounts are being invested in acquiring and retaining customers through loyalty schemes (BRL 388 million), advertising (BRL 330 million) and promotional bonuses (BRL 89 million). Other papers also show that the company has several outstanding contractual obligations with influencers, such as Virginia Fonseca, Jon Vlogs and Renato Garcia, as well as a commercial deal with singer Zé Felipe, where he was paid compensation after its termination.

In a statement to CNN Brasil, Virginia Fonseca’s representatives stated that they were not given access to the court’s decision. By the time of this writing, Blaze had not responded to requests for comment.
