Is Shakira a fan of Spain or Argentina?

Shakira hasn’t plainly stated whether she’s a fan of either Spain or Argentina, but there could be reasons for her to root for both sides.

After Argentina’s semifinal win over England, Shakira shared a post to her social media that praised Messi.

«What [Messi] is doing is beyond extraordinary! It shows the values of a man who is deeply committed and disciplined, challenging time and all odds,» she wrote. «Proving that a person is not defined by age or by what others say.»

However, Shakira also has a former relationship with a Spanish soccer player, Gerard Pique, who she met when shooting a music video for the 2010 World Cup. The couple reportedly later lived in Barcelona together and have two children: Milan, born in 2013, and Sasha, born in 2015. Pique and Shakira separated in 2022.

Because of those ties to Spanish soccer, Shakira’s rooting interests for the 2026 World Cup final could be complicated.
