Solbakken was needed to determine whether to stick with Antonio Nusa on the left wing after he was yanked at halftime of the Brazil win, or go with his replacement Andreas Schjelderup who assisted both of Erling Haaland‘s goals. He chooses the latter, as the young Benfica star gets the nod.

The other question was at the third midfield spot where Fredrik Aursnes had been starting regularly until Patrick Berg took over against Brazil and performed well, and it’s Berg who stays in the XI. Aursnes, for his own part, came in for Julian Ryerson for the final half-hour at right-back and played a strong game despite being out of position.

The crisis for England at right-back continues. It was expected to be Djed Spence who flips to that side despite Thomas Tuchel’s apparent preference to play him on the left, as Reece James struggles through his hamstring injury, Jarell Quansah is suspended two games for his red card against Mexico, and Trent Alexander-Arnold was left home by Thomas Tuchel. However, it’ll be Esri Konza to play there, with John Stones deployed in the middle.

Injuries have been a frustration for Tuchel so far, as Declan Rice continues to play through sciatic nerve pain and Marc Guehi has hamstring tightness. If Guehi cannot start, there will be questions about whether Dan Burn or John Stones should line up in his stead.

Guehi, James, and Rice all trained on Friday, indicating the injuries may be workable for the England stars and all three could be in contention to start. indeed, Guehi and Rice start, with James on the bench.

Jordan Henderson suffered a gruesome arm fracture after a fall over the advertising boards during the celebrations at the Azteca, and he will take no further part in the tournament after needing surgery in Mexico City.

Norway vs. England predictions, betting odds

England were fantastic at Estadio Azteca, but they paid the price in both availability and overall fitness. The Three Lions emptied the tank to hang on under siege at altitude in Mexico City and will be struggling to get back the extreme levels of energy spent.

Norway, meanwhile, were comfortable for the 90 minutes against Brazil, able to keep a significant amount of the ball under very little pressure from the South American side who were afraid of the Vikings’ counter-attack.

England will struggle to deal with the Norway counter, and Haaland will be familiar with many of his opponents in this match, which helped him deal with Gabriel of Brazil in the last game. It’s not coming home.
