He made his USMNT debut in 2010, but he didn’t play in a World Cup until 2022, and even at age 38, he was the captain and a full-time starter for this 2026 edition of Team USA.

Ream was a central figure in allowing the U.S. to be smashed 4-1 by Belgium in the Round of 16 on Monday night.

The third goal was a mistake by the keeper, Matt Freese, but Ream was back there as a sweeper who could’ve cleared it away. Instead, his last-ditch deflection didn’t do enough, and the ball still found the back of the net.
