CIDG Detains 13 in Muntinlupa Home Involved in Online Gaming Scheme

CIDG agents have made arrests of 13 individuals, one of whom is a fugitive, after raiding a home where an online gaming scheme is being conducted in the village of Ayala Alabang, Muntinlupa, on June 15. This comes after the issuance of an arrest warrant to the fugitive that led to the discovery of the gambling equipment.

Warrant Leads To Discovery

As stated by the Philippine National Police (PNP), the operation was started by the execution of the warrant of arrest issued to the suspect because of the violation of the Access Devices Regulation Act and Cybercrime Prevention Act. While performing the arrest warrant, the PNP agents found an ongoing illegal online gambling business within the house.

This prompted the arrest of 12 more people present at the premises. Information about their involvement is not provided by the police. The result of the operation was the termination of the activity immediately.

It was shown that a regular arrest could help discover a bigger illegal enterprise through the raiding of a place that is already involved in some other case. In this instance, the warrant served as the entry point for the larger raid.

Equipment Seized

According to authorities, they seized computers, laptops, cell phones, hard disks, and other electronic gadgets that were being used in the operation. They took away these items as part of the investigations on the illegal online gambling game.

The seizure suggests the operation relied on several digital tools to carry out its work. Police have not released details on the extent of the equipment or how it was being used, but the materials were taken for further examination.

The discovery of digital devices at the site also points to the online nature of the operation, which was being run from inside a private residence. Authorities said further investigation is needed to determine how the setup was organized.

PAGCOR Confirms Unauthorized Platforms

Verification with the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation confirmed that the online gaming platforms being operated were unauthorized. PAGCOR also said the setup violated the government’s ban on Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators, or POGOs.

That confirmation placed the operation squarely outside the bounds of the country’s current gaming rules. The government ban on POGOs remains in force, and authorities have been monitoring suspected violations linked to online gaming activity.

Police said the case is being reviewed further to establish the full scope of the operation. Investigators are also working to identify other possible violators who may have been involved.

Wider Probe Continues

The CIDG raid in Muntinlupa is an addition to the ongoing crackdown on illegal online gambling within the Philippines. Following the arrest of 13 suspects and the seizure of digital equipment, law enforcement agencies seem to be interested in finding out how the operation was carried out and if there are any more suspects involved in it.

The police said that the investigation is still ongoing, and there might be some more names revealed during the process of analyzing the seized equipment.
