In accordance with the terms of this agreement, the official sports data provider, Genius Sports, will provide data to Kalshi for creating and resolving prediction market contracts. Using the verified data from the leagues and competitions may help increase transparency by minimizing the dependence on unofficial sources or delayed information.

Participation in Genius Sport’s integrity information-sharing programs will also become a part of this cooperation. Sports entities will get access to more detailed information regarding the operation of prediction-based products, which can contribute to enhancing transparency and control over the prediction market space.

Transparency and Fans Engagement

The AFA President Claudio Tapia, has expressed enthusiasm regarding the formation of another valuable sponsorship deal with an industry leader in the prediction market space.

We welcome the addition of Kalshi to our sponsorship family. Having companies of this global caliber in our portfolio is a result of many years of hard work. This confirms the trust the world’s top organizations place in our brand.”

Also, Kalshi representatives stressed the importance of partnering with the reigning champions and setting new standards of excellence in world football.

We are very excited to partner with the defending World Cup champions, Argentina FC. Together, we are redefining fan engagement with live events, and this partnership allows us to deepen our commitment to serving fans of the beautiful game as Argentina prepares for what could be the iconic moment in its history“, said the Head of Sports Partnerships at Kalshi, Adam Barrick.

In recent years, the sports industry experienced increased interest in various innovative forms of fan engagement based on digital solutions and data.

The Deal Comes Amid Regulatory Challenges in Argentina

This news has come amid growing criticism of the prediction market space across Latin America. Recently, the Buenos Aires City Lottery banned Polymarket’s operation in the country. On the 23rd of March, the website became unavailable across all territories of Argentina.

According to LOTBA’s press release, the platform was offering unregulated services since there is no authorization for providing the service in any territory in Argentina. First of all, LOTBA’s technical teams initiated the investigation, but soon enough FEJA took control of the process. After the conclusion, a decision to ban the platform was made.

There were several reasons listed in LOTBA’s statement. First of all, the regulator noted the lack of effective age and identity verification processes. Also, the use of cryptocurrencies and credit cards for payment was mentioned as a serious issue. Furthermore, there were no restrictions on making an account for Polymarket users, which was also considered by LOTBA as a potential threat.

These issues have once again drawn attention to the topic of regulating prediction market operators.

Brazil Sticks With Its Policy on Prediction Market Operators

In April, the Federal Government announced the blockage of several prediction market operators. At the press conference, Finance Minister Dario Durigan said that ANATEL had already blocked 27 platforms operating in the prediction market space.

According to the Finance Minister, these types of operations violated Law 14.790/2023. Speaking about the reasons, Durigan claimed that the government must protect people from losing their money on such websites.

At the same press conference, together with Durigan, Daniele Correa Cardoso, the Secretary of Prizes and Betting at the Ministry of Finance, confirmed that there were already 39,000 blocked illegal websites.

For now, there are no plans to regulate prediction markets separately from other types of betting in Brazil.

In summary, we can say that this agreement with Kalshi is quite timely, despite the growing problems in the prediction market space. However, while this partnership offers opportunities for engaging fans ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, it still happens amid a rather controversial situation.
