Norsk Tipping Hit by Second Cyberattack in Two Days
Norwegian state-owned gaming operator Norsk Tipping was targeted by a new cyberattack on Wednesday evening, marking the second consecutive day the company has faced disruptions to its online services.
The attack was confirmed by Anne Marit Sletten, Senior Communications Adviser at Norsk Tipping, who said the company was experiencing a Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS) attack that caused slowdowns across its digital platforms.
“This is a new DDoS attack tonight that is causing delays in our services. Telenor is working to filter out unwanted traffic,” Sletten told Norwegian broadcaster TV 2.
Shortly before 11 p.m. local time, Pål Enger, Norsk Tipping’s Head of Press and Public Affairs, told NRK that the situation appeared to be under control.
“Everything indicates that we have the situation under control, but we will continue monitoring throughout the night to be completely certain,” Enger said.
According to Enger, Norsk Tipping has received assistance from telecommunications provider Telenor in mitigating the attack and continues to closely monitor its systems.
The cyberattack was first reported by the Norwegian newspaper VG and was later confirmed as a DDoS attack by TV 2. It is the same type of attack that targeted the company on Tuesday evening.
Company Deliberately Targeted
Norsk Tipping, headquartered in Hamar, is currently working with Telenor to manage the ongoing situation.

“We have no information about who is behind the attack. However, it is clear that someone has singled us out as a target,” Enger told VG. “They are flooding our systems with traffic, causing our websites and services to slow down. This is a deliberate attack against us.”
DDoS attacks are relatively simple to execute from a technical perspective. They work by overwhelming servers and networks with massive volumes of traffic, often causing services to become slow or temporarily unavailable. Unlike data breaches or hacking incidents, DDoS attacks typically do not involve the theft of personal information.
Enger described Wednesday’s incident as a larger attack than the one experienced the previous day. While Telenor helped block the malicious traffic, he said the company hopes to learn more about the perpetrators in the coming days.
Similar Attack on Tuesday
Norsk Tipping was also targeted by a DDoS attack on Tuesday evening. The company managed to restore normal operations after a few hours, with traffic returning to expected levels.
That attack overloaded several of Norsk Tipping’s services, with the company’s KongKasino games being among the most heavily affected.
Telenor also implemented mitigation measures on Tuesday to reduce the impact of the attack. It remains unclear whether the attacks on Tuesday and Wednesday are connected.
