During the club’s bye week in April, The Saints coach was reported by Caroline Wilson on The Agenda Setters to have said to three St Kilda indigenous players: “I love the Brotherboy connection but we all have to remember we are part of a bigger team here.”

The report stated St Kilda’s indigenous players were offended and raised the issue with Lyon, who offered to resign after taking full responsibility for what was said.

However, the issue was sorted out with all parties satisfied and the Saints have won two of their three games since, only losing to Adelaide by one-point during that time.

“Well, I’m really happy to (say) it was an accurate story,” Lyon told Sunrise on Tuesday morning.

When Lyon was asked to confirm if he offered to stand down, the coach said: “Caro was great, she’s a really good journalist.

“We spoke and she had the story and I didn’t shy away from it and everything’s accurate.

“As I said, it’s been resolved, dealt with, and I’m thankful for my players’ support.

“As a leader of the club, it’s important that you get it right every time.”

St Kilda indigenous leader Brad Hill has wasted no time throwing his support behind Ross Lyon, denying there being a rift between the playing group and coach as a result of the incident, taking to social media to defend his coach.

«Sorry Caro (Caroline Wilson) but we love Ross,» Hill posted in an Instagram story, attaching a photo of him and Wanganeen-Milera embracing Lyon in a jovial mood.
